1. About this policy
Appliance Repair Technician Jobs Canada ("we," "us," "the Service") is a Canadian online job board operated by RC Squared Inc connecting skilled technicians with employers who hire them. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how we use and share it, and your rights under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
Appliance Repair Technician Jobs Canada is one of several niche job boards we operate. This policy applies to appliancetechjobs.com. We are accountable for the personal information under our control.
2. Information we collect
From job seekers (candidates):
- Account information: your name and email address when you register.
- Application information: the resume or CV you upload and any message you include when you apply to a specific job.
- Consent choices: whether you opted in to our talent-pool contact and resume-on-file options, recorded with a timestamp.
From employers:
- Account and company information: your name, email address, and company name.
- Job postings: the content you submit, including the contact email applications are sent to.
- Billing information: processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store your full card number on our servers.
Automatically:
- Standard server and session data needed to operate the site securely (for example, IP address and session cookies). We do not run third-party advertising trackers.
3. Why we collect it (our purposes)
We collect personal information to:
- create and operate your account;
- let candidates apply to jobs and let employers receive and manage applications;
- deliver a candidate's application, including their resume, to the employer who posted that specific job;
- process employer payments for job postings;
- send transactional email (receipts, application notifications, account and alert emails);
- with your separate consent, keep you in a talent pool and contact you about other relevant roles, and keep your resume on file to share with employers when matching you to roles, including through a future recruiter service described in section 5; and
- maintain the security and integrity of the Service.
4. Consent
By creating an account and applying to a job, you consent to the collection and use of your personal information for the core purposes above (operating your account and delivering your application to the employer who posted the job).
Two additional uses are optional and presented as separate checkboxes that are unticked by default when you apply. We record each choice with a timestamp:
- Talent-pool contact: you allow us to keep your name and email and contact you about other relevant job openings.
- Resume on file: you allow us to keep your resume and share it with employers, and with recruiters we work with, when matching you to suitable roles (see section 5).
Applying to a job is separate from these options. Your application always goes to the one employer for that one job, whether or not you tick either box. You can withdraw either consent at any time by contacting us (section 10), subject to legal and contractual limits. Withdrawing does not affect applications you have already submitted.
5. How we use and share your information
With the employer you apply to. When you apply, your application and resume are made available to the employer who posted that job, and to no other employer. See section 6 for how resumes are handled.
Talent pool and recruiter service (consent-based). If you opt in to talent-pool contact, we keep your name and email to tell you about other roles. If you also opt in to resume on file, we may keep your resume and share it with employers and recruiters we work with when matching you to suitable roles. This includes a recruiter service we will offer, in which companies pay us to source candidates on their behalf. We are disclosing this commercial use now, at the time we collect your information, so that your consent covers it. When we share your resume with a paying company through the recruiter service, we receive a fee — this is a commercial arrangement we are disclosing to you now so your consent is fully informed. This use applies only if you have opted in, and you can withdraw at any time.
With our service providers. We share personal information with vendors who process it on our behalf, only as needed to run the Service and under confidentiality obligations: website hosting (Kinsta), transactional email delivery (Resend), and payment processing (Stripe). These providers act on our instructions.
Legal and protective disclosures. We may disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or us.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
6. How we protect resumes and candidate data
Candidate privacy is built into how the Service works:
- A resume you submit with an application is stored securely and is not placed at any public web address. It cannot be reached by a guessable or shared link.
- Resumes are retrieved only by the employer who owns the job you applied to, through their authenticated dashboard. We verify ownership of that specific job before any resume is shown.
- We do not email resumes. The employer is notified of your application by email (with your name and a link to their dashboard), but the resume itself is only accessed through the gated dashboard, so it is not forwarded around or left in inboxes.
- We do not operate a public, browsable resume directory, and candidate profiles are not indexed by search engines.
7. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes it was collected for, or as required by law:
- Account information is kept while your account is active.
- An application and its resume are kept for the employer's use for that posting, and removed in line with our retention schedule or on request.
- Talent-pool name and email are kept only if you opted in, until you withdraw consent or ask us to delete it.
- A resume on file is kept only if you opted in to resume on file, until you withdraw consent or ask us to delete it.
When personal information is no longer needed, we delete it.
8. Safeguards
We protect personal information with safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls that limit resume access to the owning employer, secured storage that keeps candidate files off the public web, and limiting staff access to a need-to-know basis.
9. Where your information is processed (cross-border)
Candidate and account data is hosted in Canada (our hosting provider's Toronto, Ontario data centre). Some service providers process limited information outside Canada, in the United States: transactional email is delivered through Resend, and payments are processed through Stripe. While information is in another country, it may be accessible to that country's courts and authorities under their laws. We use providers that offer a comparable level of protection and that process information only on our instructions.
10. Your rights
Subject to PIPEDA, BC PIPA, and any legal limits, you may:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- Withdraw either optional consent (talent-pool contact or resume on file) at any time; and
- Request deletion of your personal information.
Because some information may exist across more than one of our boards or systems, a deletion or access request is honoured across our records, not just on the board where you applied. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at rob@robtcase.com. We will respond within the timeframes PIPEDA requires (generally 30 days) and may need to verify your identity first.
11. Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to operate the site securely and to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices or the law change. Material changes will be posted here with a new "last updated" date. If we ever introduce a genuinely new use of your information, we will obtain consent as the law requires.
13. Contact and complaints
Questions, requests, or complaints about your privacy can be sent to:

If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca) or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (oipc.bc.ca).
